A comparative study of scour around various shaped bridge pier

Abstract The study of scouring around bridge piers is very significant and plays a important role in the safe economical design piers. term process by which bed particles periphery pier get eroded removed over certain depth resulting formation scour hole This paper presents detailed investigation local six different shapes namely rectangular, circular, chamfered, joukowsky, oblong, sharp-nosed models for selecting best most based on scouring. For experimental studies, measured all with varying discharges velocities 0.0169 m 3 s ?1 to 0.0355 0.17 0.30 respectively. It found that rectangular shape larger due development strong intensity horseshoe vortex caused flat exposed frontal area sharp nose smaller because flow bifurcated smooth curvature less vortex. In comparison obtained results, it reported exactly proportional velocity approach pier. result this can be likely used help as better among other purposes.
